Johnson Hartig's home is a fresh take on Hollywood glamour...
Porcelain dogs, modern art, champagne in the shower… Who lives in a house like this? Meet hip Los Angeles fashion designer Johnson Hartig, co-owner of red-hot label Libertine.
A former actor, Johnson was always interested in design and fashion. But with Libertine, the chic bi-coastal fashion label he founded with New York-based Cindy Greene in 2001, he's certainly discovered his niche. Their deconstructed tailoring and gothic/punky prints attracted attention from the likes of Karl Lagerfeld and Damien Hirst, as well as an impressive roll call of rock stars and celebrities. Check our the Libertine range at
Harvey Nichols.
It was the same luck and vision that took over when, after 18 months searching for an ideal living space, Johnson plumped for a house that was a 'total mess' when he first looked at it. Renovations were soon underway – low-ceilings, off-kilter floors, frosted-glass Fifties louvre windows and 'awful Mediterranean details' were all ripped out – and seven months after stripping rooms back to basics, adding the all-important pool, and sorting out the foundations, the house was ready.
Take a look around Johnson's home - a joyful, clashing melange of bright, modern art, random table-top collections and an interesting array of flea market treasures.
